Should you wear SPF in winter?
Wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, skin leathering and thinning - it’s no secret these are heightened by sun exposure. Yet many people see sunscreen as more of a nuisance than a protective - and arguably one of the most important - skincare steps in any routine. Happy that when winter comes and there is less sun in the sky they can wave goodbye to their SPF. Bad news though, the ageing effects of the sun are just as strong in winter as they are summer…

Why? Well… while UVB (the rays responsible for skin burning) have a tough time penetrating clouds and are generally lesser in the winter, so you don’t feel your skin burning in the same way. Heck, you don’t even feel warm, so it’s understandable to pass up on the sunscreen. But UVA rays - those responsible for skin ageing - are still very much present during any season. And they can pass through clouds and windows *gasps* and are even reflected by snow and ice - especially important if you’re taking to the ski slopes this season.

Year round protection.

Luckily, we can offer sunscreen you’ll want to use. Clean Screen has a skin-blurring effect that goes on white, and tones down into a perfectly primed, poreless-looking finish. We’ve included antioxidants to protect from pollution, and mattifying agents for a shine-free finish, while broad spectrum zinc oxide provides a physical block against UVA and UVB rays. Still not sold on using sunscreen all the time? Mix it with your moisturizer or your primer to cut out an extra step. Alternatively, mix it with your foundation, too.

Help with hyperpigmentation.

If you’re less stringent with sunscreen than you should be, you may start showing signs of hyperpigmentation. And winter is the best time to correct any damage you’ve done to your skin in summer as you're likely to spend less time in the sun. Dark spots typically occur on sun-exposed areas like the face and are usually larger and darker than traditional freckles. Our natural approach to lightening these? Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream Moisturizer. Instead of using traditional hydroquinone to lighten dark spots on the skin, we use natural Vitamin C and Tara Pod Extract, including Magnesium to energise the skin tone. Working with your microbiome, our glucose-encapsulated Vitamin C works all day long to brighten - without bringing irritation.

Fade those fine lines.

We’re sure you’ve heard of Bakuchiol by now. An anti-aging wonder ingredient, it works with similar results to retinol - helping your skin turn over faster to fade wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Major plus side though - zero irritation, flaking or downtime. Our Bio Retinoid range will hep to moisturize, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and help to offset the drying effects of sun exposure - and the cold weather summer comedown your skin will be experiencing in the colder months.
